BRAC Task Force

The Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Interim Study Task Force had its first meeting Wednesday, August 27. The Task Force was created by Senator Bill Avery to examine the military installations, missions, and assets in Nebraska and determine what, if anything, should be done to ensure Nebraska has an important and valuable future role in the United States military.

This bill creates a task force to study the impact that a future Base Realignment and Closing (BRAC) Commission could have on Nebraska’s current military installations and missions. The United States Department of Defense routinely examines existing military installations and mission overseas and in the United States, seeking ways to increase military efficiency. Once an installation or mission makes the BRAC Commission’s list for closing or realignment, it is extremely difficult to have it removed from the list.
